Loving Frank: A Novel

Interesting, Informative, Adventurous
Very Interesting
I enjoyed learning more about Frank Lloyd Wright and his personal life. It was a very good book that showed the choices that early feminist had to make.
The Shack (Special Hardcover Edition)
Slow, Confusing, Unconvincing
Uninspiring and disappointing.
I found the conversations between the trinity and the main character very confusing. I think it tried to seem deep and thought provoking but left me very unsatisfied.
Animal, Vegetable, Miracle: A Year of Food Life (P.S.)
Boring, Slow, Difficult
Boring, slow read
Firefly Lane

Interesting, Insightful, Adventurous
Pleasant read about best friends and their long relationship through good and bad.
I enjoyed the book although it was not ground breaking or entirely unpredictable.
The Time Traveler's Wife
Confusing, Interesting,
Interesting but confusing
I thought this book was interesting but very confusing. It was hard to keep track of what was going on because it jumped from him to her and from future, past and present. Could have been better. I have seen previews for the movie based on this book and it looks better than the book but we will have to see.
Life of Pi
Confusing, Adventurous,
Very Strange Book
I chose this book for our book club based upon reviews that I had read without having already read the book myself. It was a confusing and very unbelievable book. It was interesting and quite an adventure but more like a fairy tale or some fable. Most of book club did not enjoy this book but it did have many themes for a good discussion anyway.
A Thousand Splendid Suns

Dramatic, Life Changing, Interesting
One of my favorite all time books!
This book was wonderful. It draws the reader in from the first page. Wonderfully written and a powerful story of life in Afghanistan for women of the different decades and areas. I loved "The Kite Runner" but enjoyed this book even more.
Three Cups of Tea: One Man's Mission to Fight Terrorism and Build Nations . . . One School at a Time
Informative, Slow, Inspiring
Inspiring story but could have condensed the book down quite a bit
Good story but was very slow in parts. Could have reduced a lot of the monotonous details and had a much more interesting book.
Nineteen Minutes: A novel

Interesting, Dramatic, Dark
Heavy subject matter but very interesting.
I really liked this book. It certainly made you understand how the perpetrator of a school shooting could be a victim as much as the actual shooting victims. Makes you question who is actually to blame or partially to blame for the makeup of these "killers" and with things handled differently in their lives, would they have ever gotten to that point? Very good book for a book club discussion. Sure to bring out many differing opinions.
The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao
Poorly Written, Confusing,
Strange, sad and slow moving
I found this book to be very strange. Most pages had from a few lines to half a page of footnotes about the Dominican Republic or its leaders. A sad, slow book.
South of Broad

Interesting, ,
Interesting and diverse group of characters
I liked the interesting and diverse characters but I never got the feeling that I had to keep reading to find out what happens to them the way a great book will do. Decent but nothing great.
The Help

Brilliant, Inspiring,
Favorite Book
This is by far my favorite book that I have read in a long time (and I read alot). I loved it.
The Help

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

Dramatic, Interesting,
Good Book
Starts slow but really gets interesting.
The Hunger Games

Adventurous, Interesting, Dramatic
Good Book
This is supposed to be a young adult novel but I loved it.
The Sugar Queen

Fun, Optimistic, Romantic
Fun book.
This book was a quick, fun book.
A Reliable Wife

Interesting, ,
OK
This book was different. It was interesting but definitely does not play out the way you think it will. Could have been better but was still a fairly good book.
Water for Elephants: A Novel

Adventurous, Interesting, Informative
Good Book
This was a good book. You learn a lot about the traveling circus while reading this. Gives you insight into an aging man's emotions as well.
The 19th Wife: A Novel

Informative, Interesting,
Very interesting book.
This book was very informative about the beginnings of the Mormon Church and polygamy. It lets the reader in on the emotions behind the lifestyle and how it affects all of the participants. It has a lot of research in it and is sometimes a little confusing but very interesting.
The Art of Racing in the Rain

Fun, Interesting,
Fun Book
This book was a fun read. It is interesting and unique. I liked it and recommended it to my husband and teenager.
The Lovely Bones

Dramatic, Interesting, Difficult
Good Book.
This book dealt with a difficult subject but was very interesting and I really enjoyed it.
A Thousand Splendid Suns Illustrated Edition

Dramatic, Informative, Interesting
Great Book.
I loved this book. It dealt with difficult subject matters but ones that we need to realize are realities in many places. I feel in love with the characters. Love this writer's works.
The Book Thief

Dramatic, Informative, Interesting
Good Book.
This is a good book about one family's life during the Nazi regime and the effects it took on their family.
The Story of Edgar Sawtelle: A Novel

Adventurous, Interesting,
Interesting book.
This was an interesting book about a mute boy, his family and his dogs. Strange ending but overall a good book.
One Thousand White Women: The Journals of May Dodd

Adventurous, Interesting,
Very interesting and unique book.
This book took the premise of sending white women to the Indian reservations for the indians as part of an agreement with them to keep them on their reservations. Loved the varying and unique cast of characters. Great and believable story. Very interesting!
My Sister's Keeper : A Novel

Dramatic, Interesting, Insightful
Another thought provoking tear jerker.
I really liked this book as I do most of Jodi Picoult's books. She always manages to make you see an issue from both sides and make you question what you initially thought was right.
The Millennium Trilogy: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played with Fire, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest

Adventurous, Dramatic, Graphic
Loved the series
I loved this series. I had read a lot about these books and couldn't wait to read them. I read about a third of the first book and thought it was slow and dull and wasn't sure if I would finish it. I am so glad that I did. About half way into the book it really took off for me. The story became more about the characters and less about the very detailed scandal the character was trying to expose. Book two hooked me from page one and book three was absolutely 5 stars from start to finish. I would highly recommend this series. Might be a little lengthy for book clubs but worth the read for anyone who has the time.
House Rules: A Novel

Informative, Interesting,
An OK book
I have read most of Jodi Picoult's books and found this to be too familiar in it's writing. She has lost some of her surprise and uniqueness with each new book. I do like that she helps you to see the story from each side (and sometimes there are many sides). Her books are never bad or boring but just somewhat predictable. I wasn't really satisfied with the way it ended either. I would have preferred a more definite ending instead of leaving the reader hanging.
Garden Spells

Fun, Interesting,
Unique book
I found this book to be an interesting read. It has a touch of fantasy but not so much that it feels like an actual "fantasy" book. It is more to do with relationships with family and friends and small love story also.
Garden Spells

Fun, Insightful, Interesting
Very good book
I really enjoyed this book. Reminded me some of "Marley and Me" but actually written from the dog's perspective. Fun, interesting and a little sad but very good.
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society (Random House Reader's Circle)

Adventurous, Brilliant, Inspiring
LOVED THIS BOOK
I loved this book. I loved the style and format of the writing. It is written in letters revealed to the reader. It takes you on a wonderful journey where you get to know an amazing cast of characters. I couldn't put this book down and would love to close my eyes and be there on the Channel Island with that group.
Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet

Slow, Interesting, Informative
A good book overall
This was not my favorite book but it was an overall decent book. Parts of the book were slow moving and sometimes a little dull but it was very informative about the way Americans of Japenese and Chinese descent were treated during WWII. A nice love story also.
Sarah's Key

Dramatic, Informative, Interesting
Very good book
This was a very good book. It was interesting and very informative about the way the Jews were treated in France during WWII. Sad but very good.
