"Ignore the star rating - I give it a 3 1/2!"by kdwyer (see profile) 05/23/08
It is evident that Ms. Abbott did a lot of research and was very careful to be accurate in her account. However, this approach is exactly what makes the book a bit unsatisfying. There is no real protagonist in the book, so it is hard to have much of an opinion on the events or feel vested in the plot.
"The book is very historically based. The topic was entriguing and the author did not take liberties with telling the actual story as was supported by fact."by nelson5323 (see profile) 05/27/08
After completion, I had to reflect on the book for a few days before formulating an opnion because it was different than I expected. It read more like a history text with a lot of facts but little character development... at first I was wanting more concise explanations but whan I finished the book, I realized anything more extemporaneous would be impossible without taking liberties with the facts.
