I loved this book. It's one of those that grabs you at page one and you don't want to put it down. Cliche, I know, but it fits.

Sara Gruen puts you in the circus during the depression and tells the seedier side of this beloved family event. She also gives you a glimpse into the mind of an elderly man as he reviews a more exciting time in his life.

I'm not sure that you will want to run out and join a circus, but you may want to peek into the behind-the-scene tents when it's not show time. You will also want to interview some residents of nursing homes and ask them about interesting times in their lives. They may surprise you.
