One Thousand White Women: The Journals of May Dodd by Jim Fergus
Book Club Recommended
Adventurous, Interesting, Informative
Glimpse of "recent" historyOur club members found many aspects of the book interesting and worth discussing -- the historical context, images of daily life, and the "what ifs" that the premise (trading land for 1,000 women) put forward, among them.
The wordcrafting, literary value wasn't exceptional, but better than passible. A few members couldn't finish the book because of the graphic violence and genocide depicted.
The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein
Book Club Recommended
Inspiring, Insightful, Beautiful
Good Summer ReadWith many snippets of wisdom that thread together in a good story, this light read with slices of deep truths appealed to dog-lovers, auto racers, and most of our club members.
