The Help by Kathryn Stockett
Book Club Recommended
Insightful, Inspiring, Interesting
The HelpThis book brought back countless memories of the bigotry and racial segregation of the Deep South in the 1960's. Its main character is both realistic and inspiring as she struggles to do what is "right" for her mother, her friends, the help, and herself. I could not put this book down, and the novel still haunts me. Although much of the action is serious and thought-provoking, Stockett provides plenty of love, compassion, friendship, and humor as valuable counterpoints.
