SantaLand Diaries opens the book and anyone who has ever worked retail can completely understand where Sedaris is coming from. However, that opening chapter gives the reader the idea that the rest of the book would be filled with the same kind of stories. It was not. Our book club is mainly moms and we all had a hard time with the stories involving babies and children being killed. Maybe that is just our perspective, but unfortunately, it ruined the book for us.
However, I think other clubs should read the book, just to be able to discuss what they think of the stories as well.
