Saving CeeCee Honeycut

"Saving CeeCee Honeycut" was a nice book. It was well written and it is a lovely story of a young teen who goes to live with her wonderful great aunt after her schizophrinic mother is killed. Her life was terrible and sad while her mother was alive, due to her mother's illness and her father's absence. During this time, CeeCee had no friends except for a very kind elderly neighbor. Quite the heroine, CeeCee manages to be a straight A student while being the sole caregiver for her unwell mother. Everything changes when, upon her mother's passing, Cee-Cee moves in with her great aunt and CeeCee's life becomes a life like Cinderella's where midnight never comes. Character development is very good. Except for a brief beach scene, when CeeCee's African-American friend defends herself during a racially motivated attack and robery, there is little excitement. The book is a lovely read, a "feel-good" read, but lacks material for a deep discussion. I would rate this book five stars for young teen readers.
