My Reviews
I found this era, pre WWII set in Berlin, a fascinating learning experience. Reading an American family's diaries and hearing their perspectives, while living amongst Nazi takeover in Berlin, gave me new facts and insight into what really went on behind the scenes during the 30's. The voice of the young ambassador's daughter humanized the story.
If you enjoy romantic American biographical novels or fiction set in NYC during the glory days of the 20's and 30's, such as The Paris Wife or The Great Gatsby, you will enjoy this as well. Believe it or not, it was written by a male author, so it has some masculine input rather than just being a romanticized "chick" novel. The author wove in George Washington's Rules of Civility, which enriched the theme of the novel.
