My Reviews
Absolutely beautiful story about a family dealing with the aftermath of losing a son/brother/husband. The story kicks off a year later, when the family is gathering for a memorial service planned to honor Leo, who was killed while serving as a journalist in the Middle East. The story rings true and is beautifully told. What I liked best about it was that it ended in a realistic way, without making ridiculous overtures or perfect conclusions to all the conflicts and challenges in the characters' lives.
I will say that it did remind me a little bit of Laura Dave's "The Divorce Party," although this book is more somber and Dave's is slightly more of a summer read, but I would be comfortable saying that if you liked one, you'd probably like the other (in my opinion).
Great book, will definitely read more by Henkin.
