Cutting for Stone

Everyone who finished the book loved it. Some gave up on it within the first quarter of the book (a shame, in my mind!). We had good conversations about the complicated characters and their interactions. We all agreed that it had a good mix of storyline and history and all of us appreciated that it was written by a surgeon. Highly recommended as a book and as a discussion book.

Couldn't Relate to the Characters

My book club came up with a resounding "meh" regarding this book. No one particularly liked it. Many of us found the characters difficult to sympathize or relate to. That said - it inspired fairly good discussion about racism and feminism.

This is the one book that my whole book club loved. We fell in love with the characters and got pulled into the story and the mystery. Plenty of things to discuss with this book. Highly recommended, but be warned - it's hard to find a book to read after it that can live up to it.
