My Reviews
I'm on the fence about this one. Too slow going in the first half of the book, but issues of parenthood are interesting and the story definitely picks up in the second half. Really I give 2.5 stars and it wouldn't be my top pick for a book club.
Hillenbrand's extraordinary research skills and ability to tell a story with nonfiction are exceptional. The story of one man's survival through the horrors of WWII is inspiring. I have read many novels which focus on the Holocaust, but this informs on the experience in Japanese POW camps. And if you haven't read Hillenbrand's Seabiscuit, do so!
Hard to put down - a legal thriller asking who killed a 14 year old student on the way to school and a look at parents' ability or inability to save their child who is accused of the murder.
