My Reviews
Certainly one of the most well written American novels and one of the most enduring. The themes of the corruption of the American Dream and the callousness of the indolent rich could not be more timely.
How you feel about this book will depend on the standards of your book club. If you read only "classics" that are exceptional in subject matter or high quality writing, this may not meet your standards. It is a good book, not a great one. The subject matter of the lovers from different worlds and backgrounds and the setting of the 20's through the 40's and beyond are a big part of the book's appeal.
The book should provoke some interesting discussion. This is my reaction and I will be interested to see how the rest of my book club feels when we read the book together in June.
