It was a fun book to read and discuss. Learned about WW2 female pilots and that was interesting.

Once again, Fannie Flagg has shown her expertise as a storyteller. You know people just like the characters and you love them as you grow to love Flagg\'s characters. I enjoyed learning about the WASP as I was unaware of the vital role of women in the war.
I loved the way Sookie developed as she matured. The adventurous Fritzi was certainly far ahead of her time. It was fascinating to read the way Flagg developed a sense of family, sticking together and helping one another. Needless to say, I loved the book and recommend it highly. Now, I am wondering who will play the different characters when this becomes a movie.

"I didn't like it, but others will love it." by marguaritem (see profile) 01/18/14

Sookie, if I met you in real life, here's what I would be thinking: You're 60 years old and still whine about what a boring person you are and about having never done anything with your life. You put yourself down every chance you get just to hear others say how wonderful you are. And, to top it off, you basically spend 80% of the book blaming your mother. Stop complaining and do something...it shouldn't have taken you 290 pages to decide to go see your birth mother. Your indecisiveness drove me batty and I just wanted to smack you every time the smallest amount of stress caused a panic attack and fainting. You are annoying and whiny...your life is what you make it...sometimes you're thrown a curve ball...suck it up and deal.

Lenore...dear, dear Lenore. Why on earth do you think you're so special? I cannot stand characters who act like the world revolves around them and no other person's thoughts/feelings matter. In addition to thinking she's the greatest thing since sliced bread, she's a bitch that everyone just thinks is great. Sure, they admit she's difficult but "ha ha" lets laugh and just dismiss how horribly she treats people because she's old and beautiful and set in her ways. No Lenore, there is no excuse for your behavior.

Fritzi...I kind of liked you until the end when you decided to be a liar. Wow...all through the book I liked you and then you turn around and lie to Sookie about how her mother died. Seriously? You were the one character I liked...until that moment. I absolutely hate it when people lie because THEY THINK it's in your best interest. No, it's not...man up and tell your niece the damn truth about what happened to her mother. Or hell, why did you bother to tell her at all?

I did not find this book to be humorous in any way. I thought the author added in way too many side stories that I didn't care about...the bluejays, the murder of Sopie, Carter being gay, the psychiatrist having a crush on her...just plain stupid and unnecessary.

All that being said...I bet this is the type of book that I would enjoy on the big screen, just not reading the story.

I liked this book. I thought it was funny but also sad. I liked reading about the WASPS; and I liked at the end when Sookie met Fritzi and her aunts.

"This book was sooo informative " by wendywedde (see profile) 02/28/14

I learned so much about the WASPs (Women Airforce Service Pilots) during World War II which I was not aware of before reading this book. They did not get the recognition they deserved in my opinion!

I would recommend this book to any book club! It was wonderful, & our entire group loved it.

Good forum for discussion of Nature vs. Nurture for
people with adoption issues; also very interesting historically for bringing to light how women pilots, WASPS, helped during WWII. Unfortunate that they got
no credit & needs to be rectified.

"The All-Girl Filling Station\'s Last Reunion: A Novel" by glynngamble (see profile) 04/24/14

There are parts I liked and parts I did not like. Times I wanted to put it down and not finish due to the repetitive theme of the main character feeling like a worthless southern woman. The sections on WWII and female flyers was excellent and could've been elaborated on more. Character development is poor and overall the book is not as well written as Fried Green Tomatoes, so if you're expecting a repeat, you'll be disappointed.

"THE ALL-GIRL FILLING STATION’S LAST REUNION by Fannie Flagg" by [email protected] (see profile) 06/08/14

Flagg has moved from the South to Pulaski, Wisconsin for her tale of an immigrant family and the four daughters who take it upon themselves to run the family filling station and take up flying fighter planes during World War II. But never fear, Sookie, a Southern bell who isn’t quite up to snuff according to her domineering mother, discovers she is not a SIMMONS, but was adopted (horrors!) is also a main character.
How these facts intertwine is the story that will hold your attention. The four Polish sisters are based on the actual women who flew airplanes from factory to airfield (and sometimes further) to relieve the “real pilots” for combat duty. Their story makes up the bulk of The All-Girl Filling Station.
Flagg wrote the book to honor the women who sacrificed as much as the men, but until recently were denied the right to military honor and benefits. Their story is compelling.
Sookie’s part of the story offers humorous relief and ties all the loose ends together. You will learn an important part of WWII history and be greatly entertained at the same time. A great story well told.

Her book weaves a masterful story that enlightens the reader of a little known piece of American history and provides another thoroughly entertaining story that is impossible to stop reading!

Our book club found the book to be a good book to share and were interested in some of the back stories of the women. It made us look into what the WASP's really were about. Insightful and there were humorous parts of the book too!

Fanny Flagg did it, again. The All-Girl Filling Station\\\\\\\'s Last Reunion: A Novel is a delightful story of the WASPS, women aviators during WWII. I enjoyed the book while learning about these inspiring, brave and adventurous women.

It prompted lively discussion within our group. The personalities plus the interesting history of the WASP organization during WWII.

The transformation from an irritatingly agreeable, kind hearted, retiring daughter, mother, and wife, to an independent, adventurous, & strong willed entrepreneur is inspiring.

"How to get a headache" by jerr122 (see profile) 11/19/14

Story mildly interesting, but badly written. Characters poorly developed and story line convoluted. It is littered with thoughtless cliches, stereotypes and slogans. Fanny Flagg writes on par with high school reporters wearing sunglasses on their first interview. Yet, she has produced about two pounds of print and paper which is what she intended,

An interesting story that is written with plenty of wit and humor. I learned about the WASP\\\'s and their role in WWII and can appreciate their contributions. The characters were likable and believable and it was fun to learn about their life\\\'s transitions. A very enjoyable read!

Our club enjoyed this book very much, especially the parts dealing with Fritzi's Polish family. Almost no one knew about the history of the WASPs in WWII, so it was great to learn about the part of women in American history.
