"Wicked fun! I couldn't wait to see what would happen next in this romance turned murder mystery!" by hlarson (see profile) 06/19/12

Full of twists and turns, the plot and characters are clever and cunning. You constantly questioned their motives and alibis. A terrific "who-dunnit!"

"Twisting and Turning Plot" by brnoze (see profile) 07/09/12

This was a fast paced read. The characters are unlikable and interesting at the same time. I was surprised by events in the book which kept me reading. You really don't know what motivates people and leads them to their life decisions.

  "Wow eee-wow" by hailey63 (see profile) 07/10/12

Definitely "War of the Roses" on steroids. You don't know who to root for Nick or Amy...but you definitely know who to be afraid of. This will be my book club choice for our group next meeting. Definitely read it cold without any blurb to ruin the trip. The ups and downs, ins and outs of Nick and Amy will leave the reader breathless…and wanting more. When you least expect it Flynn swerves and careens in a new direction. Right up till the last page, Flynn owns your emotions. What a trip.

When Amy goes missing on their fifth wedding anniversary, Nick Dunne doesn't know what to think. But soon, he is the No. 1 suspect for murder and has to figure out what happened to his wife. Told in alternating story lines between Nick and Amy (using her diary), Gone Girl makes you wonder, "How well can you ever know someone?"

"Gone Girl" by Apinklady (see profile) 07/30/12

This book provided surprises at every turn. A great psychological thriller that will grab you from the start. The book begs the questions, "How well do you know your spouse or anyone for that matter?" "What are their secrets and desires?" "How many 'faces/masks' do we wear to get what we want or to give someone what they want?" This book will make for a fun and interesting book club discussion.

Amazing Amy is one complicated little girl!! Just when you think you have her figured out she has something else up her sleeve. But wait, what about that "perfect' husband? He is awfully complicated too. Did he kill his wife, or didn't he. You need to read the whole book to find out.
Fantastic summer read

I particularly enjoyed the set up of this book. His side, her side. Rivoting how soul-less someone can be!!

"The War of the Roses: Pyscho edition" by tboyd81 (see profile) 08/17/12

The book started off a little slow for me, then took a turn. Once it hit its stride, I couldn't put it down. The ending didn't give me the revenge I was hoping for, but it was an enjoyable read nonetheless.

"Looks like author didn't know how to end it" by ebach (see profile) 08/23/12

Right up to the second-from-last page GONE GIRL by Gillian Flynn is a five-star book, i.e., it deserves the highest rating. Every page of the book builds more and more tension. It really is the best kind of book: unputdownable.

But the end: I didn't like it. It is as if Flynn couldn't think of an end to the story so just stopped.

The book's chapters alternate between Nick and Amy, husband and wife. The first chapter, Nick's chapter, hints of impending doom.

Amy's chapters in the book's first part are her diary; so we get flashbacks of Nick's and Amy's relationship and marriage. Nick's chapters remain in the present. The combination builds tension with every page.

After the first part, both Amy's and Nick's chapters are in the present. Now Nick has a better understanding of Amy. And every page builds tension. Amy is no ordinary person.

Personally, I think the end should be rewritten. This is a five-star book that loses a star because of the last two pages.

Thank you to readitforward.com for giving me this book.

Novel has so many twists and keeps you thoroughly engaged it's hard to put down you want to see what happens next. The main characters Nick and Amy are so well drawn psychologically and their social situations are believable ie. what happens when you lose your well-paying jobs and how it affects them individually and as a couple. I would recommend this heartily!

I liked the flow of the writing and the intrigue of the story. There were parts that were a bit predictable but all in all it was an enjoyable read.

"GONE GIRL" by jennymead (see profile) 09/13/12

I RECOMMEND GONE GIRL FOR ONE REASON. IT SHOULD/MIGHT PROVOKE A CONVERSATION ABOUT ETHICS. THE DEFERENCE PAID NOW TO ONE'S PUBLIC PERSONNAE ON FACEBOOK AND TWITTER SEEMS TO OBSCURE THOUGHTS ABOUT GOOD AND BAD. GONE GIRL DEMONSTATES THE RAMIFICATIONS OF LIVING LIFE AS PERCEIVED RATHER THAN BELIEVED.

"Could not put it down!" by lflan12 (see profile) 09/21/12

I could not put this one down... definitely neglected my family for a while on vacation though fortunately it is a quick read! The characters kept me guessing and the plot twists really made you think. At book club, we all would have strong opinions about a character and then you'd have to think about whether they were even accurate based on the point of view of the story teller... Very interesting if not a little far fetched!!

"A good discussion" by knitmarisa (see profile) 09/29/12

This book was more of a 3.5 for us. We enjoyed the author's writing, but did not like any of the characters. As one member said, "I didn't want to pick it up, but when I did, I couldn't put it down."

"Gone Girl led to a great Book Club discussion" by pandsmom (see profile) 09/30/12

Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn was extremely well written, fun and clever. Not one person guessed the ending, and we certainly had fun discussing it. In my opinion, this is a must read for any book club. Enjoy!

"Gone Girl changes alot" by lizblair (see profile) 09/30/12

I can't believe the twists in this book. Usually, I am not thrilled when books are written in two points of view, but because of Amy's diary aspect, it works. I could not put it down!

I found the book intriguing. The relationships among the characters as well as the psyches of the characters provide for lively discussions!

"Gone Girl" by reader01 (see profile) 10/09/12

I was very hyped up to read this book after the #1 status on book lists, yet I must say, I was very disappointed. I found the book interesting in the beginning and then very predictable, and also very unbelievable. I liked the dialogue about the two separate perspectives of the "marriage relationship" as being very well written. Then the book lost me with the plot line being predictable and the ending left me totally unsatisfied. I would not waste the time with this read.

"Oh. My. Goodness." by riegerd (see profile) 10/10/12

Have to admit the book started out a little slow for all of us. About 90 pages in I read something in one of the Nick chapters and went, "Huh?" I felt like maybe I missed something and thought I might need to start the book over again. I didn't but then I got even further and was dealt another, "WHAT?" It just kept going from there. Without giving anything away, I must say this book kept me in a lurch the entire time. I felt like I never knew what to believe. Great book. We all would recommend it.

"Slow start, Forced ending" by skinnyatlas (see profile) 10/14/12

Unappealing, shallow characters are not saved by clever plot twists later in the book. First half very slow and then the second half feels forced.

Gone Girl is a highly addictive book that keeps you guessing.

"OMG!" by lwareham (see profile) 10/17/12

Brilliantly written...so much of the book we see on TV...especially how the media can influence our perspective on cases. Twisted and yet I felt it could happen in real life. A wonderful physiological thriller to the very last page!

"Predictible" by mhk0604 (see profile) 10/17/12

Though I can't say every single event was predictible, it didn't take long for the reader to have an idea of what was happening. I will give Gillian credit for perhaps convincing some readers in the beginning that Nick did it, but it was too pretty to be alluring or addictive.

The book didn't take too long to read, but I certainly didn't find myself being unable to put it down. Overall, it was a fine book.

"Mind Blowing!!!" by kstaiger9 (see profile) 10/18/12

This novel is by far one of the best novels I have read in awhile. All of the characters are flawed people that you never particularly like, but may grow to pity. Despite this, I just couldn't stop reading to find out how the book ends. At first I began to suspect that foul play is involved in the disappearance of Amy, but then I got 1/2 way through the novel and WHAM, the author drops a HUGE bombshell, making me go back to re-read the first half of the novel. I was floored by the change in the direction of the novel, but LOVED it... the author is absolutely brilliant!! She depicts these twisted, dark, and flawed individuals in such a way that you begin to suspect that she has way more insight into these people than a sane individual should. If you enjoy reading a novel that keeps you guessing, and will have you staying up late into the night to read the next chapter, pick this one up. An awesome book for a book club!!

"Gone Girl" by Quiltgranny (see profile) 10/22/12

This book provided a very lively discussion in our small group. It was chosen as a mystery read, and the most discussion was centered around the "mystery" of the characters. We enjoyed the clues in plain sight, and the writing style.

"Laughs and literature" by lynnbainbridge (see profile) 10/24/12

I enjoyed this book and would recommend for other book clubs. It had several twists and the plot kept me guessing for the first part of the book. Once it was revealed what really happened, it was just ridiculously sick!!

This book is very original and authentic.

"Gone Girl Review" by slpayne (see profile) 10/26/12

The first 142 pages are really slow, hard to get into and almost made me stop reading. But once I got past page 142 I was hooked for a couple days and couldn't put it down. It is really a good story line overall that you would never expect, so if you can get past the first fifth of the book you will enjoy this dramatic, psychotic twist of events Jillian Flynn has put together!

This book was very difficult for me to put down. Though the characters are quite dark and not easy to relate to, I was compelled to find out what happened next. There was a twist that blew me away...what more can you ask for?

"Too many holes" by kate.tulibaski (see profile) 10/29/12

We picked this book for our book club meeting because we wanted to mix things up a bit and do something sort of "thriller" or "mystery". Perhaps we chose the wrong book for that but it seemed like this was trying to be a conspiracy sort of book but it had too many holes and was therefore not believable. Writing was good so it was easy to read and follow - just didn't give me anything to connect to. Didn't hate it but it wasn't helpful for book club discussion either.

"Very Twisted" by hooks1023 (see profile) 10/31/12

I couldn't put the book down - and yes, at the beginning you thought you knew what happened and who to blame but it had some great sick twist to the story. But overall I have to say I loved the book!

"I'm not quite sure why people love this book." by JesaKrist (see profile) 11/01/12

I liked it but I certainly didn't love it. And I'm more unsure what it is that people love about it so much. Both characters were hate-able, yet I found Amy to be more hate-able than Nick, but then found myself hating Nick just as much....which may have been the point all along. At the end I found myself very disappointed and the story was left with too many holes that could have dissolved the issues. If by chance Ms. Flynn decides to right a sequel, I certainly hope she rectifies the overall story, because I certainly didn't like it.

"2 1/2 Stars - Extremely Well Written However Despicable Cast of Characters Makes It Difficult to Like" by zodejodie4 (see profile) 11/04/12

Gillian Flynn is one hell of a writer. She's also an extremely skilled storyteller. It is undoubtedly an achievement to people a story with such unlikeable characters and yet keep your reader hanging on, turning page after page, eager to find out where the narrative is going to go. Flynn does just that. Every time you think you have things figured out, you don't. Having said all that, the despicable behavior and nature of the characters and the unraveling at the end, in my opinion, into cliche, made it difficult for me to like this book more than I did. 2.5 stars

The reviews from our book club members were unanimous - they couldn't put the book down. It was a captivating, thrilling and sometimes morbidly fascinating read. We also decided that neither main character was very likeable, and that they both deserved each other in the end. A great read - we highly recommend this book.

"Twisted" by Jess72180 (see profile) 12/01/12

This novel had drama, suspence, twists and turns. Gillian Flynn gets you to feel empathy in one part and causes you to despise the very same character in the next part. Flynn had amazing twists and turns that kept you reading until the end. Great book!

"Gone Girl" by blsnshin (see profile) 12/05/12

I really enjoyed this book; it was hard to put down. Although the main character Amy was obviously insane, she was also cunning, and strategic, and dedicated in her maniacal behaviour. Her husband, Nick, on the other hand was ridiculously disengaged and oblivious to his wife's true character, as well as his own part in their undoing.

The original Psycho B@#*%. Easy and quick read as you get sucked in to this sociopath's web of lies spanning her whole life since her odd birth culminating on her 5th wedding anniversary.

"Disappointing" by MarisaB (see profile) 12/10/12

I'll start by saying, that I actually thought this book was well-written. I didn't enjoy it, because the characters were so disappointing, I was annoyed at pretty much all of them by the time she first got gone! I thought they were very cliche with the exception of Amy, who was just so twisted, she defies description. Having said all that, this book did bring out strong feelings in me, so I can't say it was awful or boring, just something I did not personally care for.

"Not a Fan" by csammonds (see profile) 12/13/12

Maybe it's because I went out on a limb to read the type of book I don't normally read, but I was not impressed. Although the author did a fantastic job with the writing, my amusement was decreased by the middle of the book. I thought the turn of events in the book lost my interest, the characters were almost unbearable to read about and I hated the end.

This is a very depressing story about 2 people in a sad, sick marriage. Deceit, and lies are highlighted on every page. The good things I can say, are that there are twists and turns you won't expect, and it made for interesting group discussion. I kept reading to see how it all ended, but I didn't like how depressed it made me feel.

"Gone Girl" by mkrupiak (see profile) 12/20/12

This book started out convincing the reader you knew what was coming. Then the book changed and you thought something else. Then in the third part, you thought there was some kind of justice. The ending was baffling. When I finished the book, I felt disappointed. It took me days after the book to finally see the ending was just as it should have been. For that reason, I loved the book even more. It made me think about it long after I had finished it and changed my original thought. I would highly recommend this book.

"Love the plot twists and the marriage dynamic!" by bornrebel9 (see profile) 01/05/13

In "Gone Girl", there is a definite darkness to the marriage of Nick and Amy Dunne. When she disappears (or does she?), Nick is left as the primary suspect in the investigation and is caught in his lies and deceits. When he reveals that he's been cheating on Amy for a year with a young student of his readers may start to wonder if this was the reason for his wife's disappearence in the first place. The book alternates between his perspective and Amy's perspective and what it reveals is that a wife who has been cheated upon may use drastic measures to get revenge on her unfaithful husband. I loved how this was one of the major plot twists of the book and how she begins to dominate more of the book in the second half. She may certainly have some psychological issues but what she does to try to gain the sympathy of others is intriguing beyond doubt. "Gone Girl" is one of those books that you'll find difficult to put down and although it is slow-going at first once you get sucked in it is hard to pull yourself out of it.

"This would be excellent if author could use less offensive expletives." by Ronswife (see profile) 01/22/13

The story was clever and absorbing, but the author's use of foul language was shocking and very off-putting to me. I wil not recommend this novel for that reason alone.

"GONE GIRL by Gillian Flynn" by [email protected] (see profile) 01/28/13

From the moment Nick announces he has lied 10 times, you will wonder! When did he lie? Is he telling you a lie now? Is Amy telling the truth? Is Amy really dead? Has she been kidnapped? By whom? Who is the “bad guy? Amy? Nick? Go? Maribeth and Rand? Anyone of a several other characters? Is there a “good guy?”
Well written and entirely plausible, Gone Girl will keep you guessing to the end. Book groups will find a wealth of topics for discussion – family, siblings, lawyers, divorce, murder, friendship, mental health, marriage, fame, wealth – among others.
Mystery fans and those who prefer love stories or family dramas will find something to love in this psychological mystery.

I despised the characters and couldn\\\'t read fast enough. Compelling and repulsive at the same time. I actually liked it better the second time I read it when I knew the outcome and could appreciate the way every detail was worked out.

"Gone Girl" by thewanderingjew (see profile) 02/22/13

As I read this book, I had a recurring thought. Perhaps I am naïve, but if there are lots of people in the real world that are like the dysfunctional characters in this book, then the human race is in big trouble. The reader will encounter manipulative, cruel individuals who abuse and are abused with abandon. Brilliant sociopaths, lowlifes who take advantage of others, misfits, completely unhappy and miserable examples of mankind, occupy the pages of this book. I was hard pressed to find one likable, and possibly normal being, who was not intent on using another, not intent on drawing attention to themselves, not intent on seeking fortunes, power and control using any means to justify their ends. As the pages turned I could not believe the developments, and yet, they were just real enough to possibly actually take place. The author captured her characters personality traits perfectly in the dialogue. The narrative twisted and turned and kept the characters and the reader twisting and turning in the wind, as well. What would happen next? Could the situation grow worse? The answer was yes, it kept getting worse and worse until the ending which was a bit of a surprise, but also in the realm of the possible, in the realm of the credible. My tension increased as I continued to read and I was, at times, afraid to find out the conclusion of this mystery. The author makes the unbelievable absolutely believable. These characters were sick people who found each other and fed off each other. They were all some kind of parasite.
Gone Girl, just kept surprising me. Nick and Amy, for all appearances, were both very self absorbed, very preoccupied young people, who wanted to appear to be the cool version of a perfect married couple, very much interested in maintaining their independence and not leaning heavily on each other with reproaches. They were \"the beautiful people\". However, they were hit hard by the economic downturn, losing their very well paid jobs in New York City. Experiencing these bumps in the road, they were forced to reassess their lives and relocate to Nick’s former hometown, where they started over. Together with his twin sister, and his wife’s money, Nick purchased a bar which he operates happily with his sibling.
Suddenly, one morning, on their fifth anniversary, Amy disappears in what looks like violent circumstances. After a lengthy investigation, with many shocking revelations, all fingers point to the husband, Nick, who is generally the first and major suspect in cases like these. The storyline will introduce the reader to all sorts of people who thrive on this kind of investigation, not only to help solve the crime, but also for the thrill of it and some for their fifteen minutes of fame, romance or even financial gain. (Nick’s wife Amy is the inspiration for “Amazing Amy”, a character in a children’s book series created by her parents.)
Occasionally, the book got a bit tedious, but just when I was ready to give up, the plot moved on and captured my interest again. The competing, dual narratives and timelines concerning the events Nick and Amy experienced, were engaging, but sometimes it took too long to switch from one of them, to the other. The plot used trompe l’oeill, sleight of hand, and misdirection to provide different clues and constantly pointed me in one and then another direction, as it did the police investigators. It worked so effectively, so perfectly that it kept me involved in the story, eager for more. Each time I thought I had it all figured out, another theme developed, the plot twisted away, and I was baffled once again.
It was really hard to like any of the characters. All of them were self serving, scheming in some way, working under the radar, suffering from one thing or another, often self inflicted wounds because of stupidity, greed, insecurity and perhaps, mental illness.
I was able to identify with the closeness of the fraternal twins because I have a twin brother. Also, I was able to identify with the in-law issues, since most of us do experience them in one form or another, but with twins, I suspect it can be more intense because their unusual closeness can cause jealousy. Regardless of any common ground I found within the pages, I could not identify with the issues that troubled any of the characters in the story. They were simply not nice. They lied, stole, cheated, inflicted harm to others, played ugly games with people, disregarded the feelings of others, used them at will and, in general, seemed to be completely corrupt in some way. Yet, haven\'t we all known someone like that?
All in all, Gone Girl, is a really good, exciting read!

"Solid Thriller" by MrsSutton (see profile) 03/23/13

On the morning of Nick and Amy Dunne's fifth wedding anniversary, beautiful, vivacious Amy goes missing from their beautiful home on the Mississippi River. The police are called, volunteers are combing the waterfront, and Nick is being questioned. Bitter and evasive, Nick quickly goes from the grieving husband to prime suspect in the eyes of the media, townspeople, and even his once supportive in-laws. However, a dark side of Amy emerges and Nick slowly begins to unravel the truth of his wife's disappearance.

Despite owning copies of Flynn's two previous books, Dark Places and Sharp Objects, this was the first book of hers that I've actually read...and I could not put it down. The chapters alternated between Nick's current situation and entries from Amy's diary that was found by the police, which lent amazing insight into why the Dunne marriage was not as perfect as those on the outside once thought it to be. I was kept guessing right up until the end, which for me was, unfortunately, a bit disappointing. I was not pleased with the ending, which resulted in a four-star review, instead of the five it was on it's way to receiving for most of the book. Overall, though, I highly recommend it to anyone who loves a good suspense/thriller.

Gone Girl was not my usual choice of book. I found it a compelling read. I lurched from disliking Nick and feeling sorry for Amy to finding Amy quite creepy and liking Nick. At the end I felt sorry for both of them. Ultimately they were a desctructive couple that deserved each other...

Gone Girl is a suspenseful page-turner and a great read, but at the meeting we found there was not much to discuss. It was an interesting read. Dark, suspense, addictive because you want to find out what eventually happens with the husband and everyone else who is hopeful. But then \\\\\\\"Stockholm Syndrome\\\\\\\" begins to kick in with him. I wanted it to have a different ending. However, now thinking back, there couldn\\\\\\\'t be a happy ending, because both Amy and Nick, are adrenaline junkies, a natural rush \\\\\\\"drug\\\\\\\" for writers. After being exposed to a higher level of stress, they will always go back to it.
Overall, I like the book. I do recommend it to others. Good discussions on sociopaths...

The setting is a 5-year wedding anniversary when the wife suddenly comes up missing. Police are focused on the husband and the story begins. This book is so much more than just a who-done-it. In all honesty, there was not a character in the book that was a GOOD character. Everyone had their flaws, weaknesses and secrets -- perhaps that is what made this book so captivating. A very deep, well-thought out plot, this story takes you through the lives of two individuals (and their families) all struggling to find out who they are, how to break from the past while trying to keep their heads above water, financially and emotionally. This book was a roller coaster ride to say the least and in the end there was no GOOD guy, just an appropriate justice for the crimes committed. Be sure and find yourself some quiet time to read this, because you will NOT want to be interrupted. I think this book has the makings of an excellent movie. A must read!

"Gone Girl" by shelleybean1 (see profile) 01/31/14

I’m going to TRY to be really vague and not give spoilers here because you’ll want to read this book, although it is hard for me not to give it away.

I think narrator husband Nick is a smarmy, icky individual. However, I spent much of the first half of the book annoyed because it seemed that the book was deliberately forcing me to believe that he was his wife’s killer. I admit I felt a little strong-armed by it, and so at first, I was a bit resentful.

When the twist(s) did come, I certainly didn’t expect them to play out as they did. That, I guess, is the part of this book that is awesome. Even after feeling deliberately frogmarched through many of the plot points and feeling resentful of the author for that, I can now accept it because the second half was so darn good! Sigh…I guess the forcefeeding of clues works to keep us guessing. (Although based on some of my notes, maybe I should have seen at least some of it coming).

The other thing that needs discussion is the ending, which I didn’t really like. It felt unsatisfying, although I personally can’t think of how it could have wrapped up otherwise! I guess it’s supposed to be unsatisfying. After all, how ELSE could this relationship end?

Anyway, although I felt that deliberately laying the case against Nick for much of the book felt a little cheaty, I’m glad I didn’t quit reading. I think parts of the story got a little far-fetched (but that’s… psychopaths?… sociopaths? — our book club couldn’t decide — for you). Anyway, my recommendation: Read Gone Girl…it’ll keep you guessing :)

I am not really sure how I feel about Gone Girl. I didn't dislike it per say, but I couldn't really like it because I just found it to be really unbelievable and at times, ridiculous. I couldn't get behind any of the characters either because I thought they were all really annoying, shallow, and self-absorbed. I did find it to be suspenseful and psychologically interesting at times, but the climax of that suspense was always a letdown because I just couldn't buy into the actions and ultimate motivations of the characters.

A good read, page turner, mysterious, a true "who
dunnit". Author's style was journal-like in presenting the thoughts and actions of the two main characters. At first I didn't like that style, but then appreciated it as it allowed the reader to not get confused. I didn't know which character I liked less, a psychopath or a spineless, cheating, selfish spouse. One wasn't a killer.

This book held me in thinking there would be resolution, in spite of the pitiful characters, and when it finally (and I mean FINALLY) ended, I felt as though I had been robbed.

good story line if you like murder mysteries......too much sex and bad language for me.

"Gone Girl Roller-coaster" by KathyPrigge (see profile) 04/24/14

The FRLWDS Book Club had a great discussion with this book. Most of us loved the dark but thrilling and fun roller-coaster ride!,,,,,except for the ending. We felt like it was unrealistic and basically set the author up for a possible sequel with it's "conclusion". The ride with these psychos was crazy one with your allegiance changing with the unexpected and crooked plot twists. Most of the characters without a moral barometer- or just plain nuts!... with the exception of the police officers (we really liked Boney). We have a mental health nurse in our group - it was interesting to get her perspective! Most of the group agreed they would have to pick up the sequel- if there is one. And we are very much looking forward to the movie- but were split on the casting of Ben Affleck- maybe Bradley Cooper instead? Oh well- Bradley can't be in EVERYTHING- dang.

It is well-written and addictive at times, but the ending is too disappointing. I left it with a bad taste in my mouth and just plain unsatisfied.

Our book club had a lively time discussing this book. One member said she couldn\'t put it down despite schoolwork that was piling up. Our group\'s general consensus was that the book was well written, well researched and executed. The author did a fine job laying the groundwork in the first part, then took proceeded to confound and manipulate us through the rest of the story. We are also enjoyed discussing the actors in the movie which is due out in October.

Amy and Nick have been having marital problems, and when Amy disappears amid suspicion, Nick is the prime suspect of what is a suspected murder.

This was a tough one to review. While it was well-written, clever, and engaging (keeping me reading, wondering what was going to happen next), there was something ultimately unlikable about it.

This book is written in the perspective of Nick, who is reeling from the disappearance of his wife on their anniversary, and the diary entries of Amy. Amy's diary entries take you through the years leading up to their anniversary, both the good and the bad, and it becomes clear that there was a lot of bad. Things don't look good for Nick, who seems to be a self-serving, self-centered worthless husband, and the evidence mounts against him, making it appear that he did indeed kill his wife and dump her body. But did he? You're never quite sure. And at other times you aren't even sure he is really such a bad guy. At times he seems genuinely confused and grieving.

This is one of those stories that has you going this way and then that, like a Dateline murder mystery. Yes, he did it! Wait, no, I don't think he did do it. Yes, he did! No, he didn't. Back and forth.

The characters were very well developed slowly throughout the story, the storyline was a winding road looping around on itself. There were a few plot points that were kind of preposterous, but overall it was a pretty enjoyable story.

My final word: When I asked myself what it was I didn't like about this story, I found the answer was simple: the characters. I couldn't stand them. By the end of the story, I was sick of them both and glad to be rid of them! But the story itself was pretty well-crafted and very clever. Overall I would recommend this story if you like to be kept guessing.

"Kudos, Gillian Flynn!" by Burgo49 (see profile) 11/12/14

Seriously, who thinks up this type of story? Definitely a page turner, full of plot twists and turns. Characters were fully developed and believable (even with all of the insanity). I found myself hating both of the narrators at different points in the story but by the end, I actually LIKED them. Since I don't want to include spoilers in this review, that's about all I can say, this book is THAT good.

This love story begins with flawed people and ends with twisted sick people inflicting damage and pain on each other for different reasons. One because he is afraid of admitting that his life is not what he wants it to be and the other's desire to stay in control and have things happen on her terms. I could not believe how twisted and selfish these two are and it was hard to figure out how the "victim" in the relationship is until it IS revealed.
