Suspenseful, dramatic, keeps you guessing until the very end!
Timely and sensitive issues. Definitely a hard to read subject, but makes you think.
This book was absolutly brillant, I loved the concept and belive it is a very important message that this book gives to readers.....take the time to really know your children, make time in your busy schedule to sit and listen to your child and above all be aware of their social media activity. This story was heartbreaking but so beutifully written that I have recommended it to many friends. You dont need to be a parent to appreciate this book, I am not and it still touched me.
Reconstructing Amelia is a fabulous story that captured my attention from the first chapter. A single mother is notified that her daughter has been suspended from school. She arrives to retrieve her daughter only to find she has supposedly jumped to her death from the roof of the school. Or did she? This story weaves the tale of the backdrop of Amelia's life, her friends, her relationship with her mother and unanswered questions in her life -- the things that all teenagers her age struggle to come to grips with. She senses voids in her life and independently takes steps to fill those voids, only to find herself more unsure of herself and her actions. This should be a must-read for every parent of teenagers and for teenagers as well. It is a wake-up call for parents to remain involved in their children's lives. It is a reminder to teenagers that their only TRUE source of encouragement, support and faith lies in the hearts of their parents. Especially in today's society that is rampant with physical and verbal bullying and even cyber-bullying, this story should serve as an example of the repercussions of certain actions. While a fictional story, Amelia could be any child you see on the street. Beautifully written - this book just landed on my "favorites" list.
I found this book to be thought provoking and interesting. It called to me to be read when I wasn\\\'t reading it. It makes you think. How well do we know our children and the people they hang out with? It also makes you think about the pressures of peers and social media. The book had surprises that had me guessing. I enjoyed it and recommend it to others.
Book really made me think and privided for real nice book discussion.
This story immediately pulls you in and is a fairly easy read. The story does reflect issues that many older school students face daily. The ending comes as a surprise.
I couldn\\\'t put the book down. It was a great novel, very well written, dramatic, and surprising. Enjoyed it very much.
Our entire group really enjoyed this book and had a great discussion as a result. Many themes and points of discussion are found within this well written story of the relationship between a single mother and her daughter and the relationships typically experienced during youth.
This book's plot is very contemporary. The author used a variety of writing styles: Facebook entries, blog entries, text messages and narrative to tell the story of a teen and her relationship with her mother, her peers, and her friends. The topic of cyber-bullying is well covered. The language is pretty strong. Our group concluded that the book was a compelling read.
how well does any parent know their child? some of it predictable, but good read
Little on the depressing side, but great conversation starter for moms - especially of pre and teens.
I liked this book. Being a mother of a teenage daughter the same age as Amelia, it made me think, do I really know what goes on? It has made me more aware of the power of social media and how important it is for us to educate ourselves as well as support our children in this new era. Social media will shape how our children view the world, it has already started to affect their perception of how they fit into society. With "likes" and "dislikes" and the instant feedback they get. Keep your eyes open parents ... Enjoy the book.
