I enjoyed reading Brick Lane very much and could not wait to sit with my book group and discuss it.There are so many differences between the Bangladeshi culture and my own and it amazing to me that women still to this day defer to their husbands and feel that they are substandard members of society. The main character,Nazneen, goes through so many changes but is so real at the same time.I felt for her as a woman,a wife and a mother.
Although I found this book not easy to read, It hits on the struggles of class/nationality differences in another country. A struggle of keeping ones own customs while adapting to a new way of life and their customs. A story of acceptance and growth. I found it moving at moments yet slow going in others.
