"The MIssing years of Jesus as descibed by his best friend biff." by nycrules (see profile) 06/22/07

I absolutely love Christopher Moore, he is quirky, but if you have sensitivity issues in the matter of faith, this book may not be for you, This book takes you through the life of Jesus as a young boy the trials and tribulations he must face as he hides that he is the chosen one, how he meets Mary, and his Journeys with Biff, who narrates the story. Moore writes books that are really out of the box. You have to be open minded or you will be offended. Regardless of if you like him or hate him I consider him a great author as he makes you think, and that is why he is one of my top 5 favorite authors. way out there, fun, makes you say wow, where did that come from!

We all really enjoyed this book. Though we all agreed that folks that are a bit more conservative in their religious beliefs might find it offensive. But if you take it for what it is (a fictional STORY), you'll be entertained, laugh out loud and possibly gain a new perspective on a great man (and his friend ;)). This story was so cleverly written, it tickles your funny button as much as your noggin!

"Turning Jesus into a 'real guy'." by munchkingin (see profile) 05/20/11

I've read this 4 times, and it remains my very favorite book of all time. It's a witty, hilarious fictional account of the missing 30 years of Jesus', erm Joshua's life. It'll make you laugh out loud over and over and leave you feeling like you understand. It's not a religious book, although it definitely still has an excellent message. I think it's even funnier if you have a religious background - then you'll really get the jokes.

I cannot recommend this book more highly. I've made everyone I know read it, and they've all loved it, too.

The fact that the Bible practically jumps from Jesus' birth to his death has always irked me. What about all those years in between? Christopher Moore gives a humorous look at what Christ's life might've been like as he grew into a man. What child doesn't have a best friend, for one? Having the story told by Biff, who claims that role, adds an intriguing element, as it gives an intimate, yet still outside look at his life. If you can't laugh at religion, then I wouldn't recommend this one. But if you can appreciate thinking Jesus lived as a monk and a yogi while trying to figure out how to be the messiah, pick up this book.

"I laughed out loud" by azmills (see profile) 12/22/11

I have always thought that God must have a great sense of humor. Sometimes it's painfully obvious. Moore's book is great fun to read and offers a different perspective to familiar Bible stories and a theory for the what happened during the years missing from the 'other' gospels. Can't wait to read other books by Moore.

Only one person in our group liked this book. Most of us quit reading before page 100.

We did contemplate the more serious side of the book, but then went back to parts that made us laugh, It made for a fun book club night.

"Lamb, The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Chidhood Friend" by Adelaide (see profile) 05/03/15

I enjoyed the book. It certainly takes a few liberties with what we would have thought about a young Christ, but I found it very inspiring because of the devotion Biff had to his Good Friend. I thought the book was a little slower during Christ's trips to see the 3 Wise Men.

I listen to this book on audio tape, as the first hour was fairly boring but I trudged through because it was a book club book. I am so glad I did. Once you got invested in the characters, this was a laugh out loud narrative of the early life of Jesus. Filled with Bizzarre takes on what might've been or how certain known events could have "really" taken place. More comical than blasphemous, and oddly insightful for events occurring in the Old Testament.

Our book group chose to read it a second time as it had been quite a while. It was very funny and well written.
