Lighthearted read for the holidays. Fun characters, good ending.
Fannie Flagg has more than done it again. This sweet, warm little book will renew your faith in humanity. While the book seems to be set in an earlier time period (perhaps the 1960's) the love of family and friends will appeal to most anyone who likes a story with lots of heart and a good moral. Also, lots of laughs and humor and if that isn't enough, like in many of her books, some really good recipes in the back.
This was a very feel-good book. It is Great for the Christmas season and is an easy read for a very busy month!
A very nice Holiday read. The right amount of inspiration, without making it seem improbable.
The Bookettes met yesterday and had a wonderful, lively discussion about the Redbird Christmas. Out of 7 members it was unanimous that we all found the book to be a sweet, loving story, and a nice read for the Christmas holiday.
A lovely story set in a time and place of a strong welcoming community of people who look out for one another. Quirky characters that you'd love to know and would depend on. How they come together to help a young girl bestows not only a healing opportunity for her but also for each other.
A sweet Christmas story to give your book club a break from all the serious material we read during the year. Fannie Flagg has again filled her story with wonderful characters living in small-town Alabama. This story is full of humor and heart. Each character has a flaw or two, and several are handicapped in some fashion. Many are stuck in the past. Through the example of an injured cardinal or redbird, and the love of a damaged little girl, the townsfolk learn to let go and to live again.
What a delightful story to read at Christmastime! I loved all of the characters and enjoyed watching them grow through the story! Chicago - city/cold Alabama - country/warm........it's what made Oswald well - all the warmth of a small town.
A Charming book perfect for the Christmas Season with interesting and likeable characters.
This is a lovely Christmas read without being too typically sweet. Hallmark should buy the rights for a TV movie. Short and heartwarming.
We loved this book. It was not a predictable Christmas book and had a great message. The characters and setting were both charming. A definite recommendation.
All the members enjoyed this book. The characters were interesting and not those you would see in many books. The twists at the end were refreshing as everything came together.
