Little Fires Everywhere is about to be…well, everywhere! You’ll be reading about it and hearing about it–and it will premiere on Hulu March 18th–but if you don’t have Hulu, how can you see it?
The only other Hulu show I have watched is Handmaid’s Tale and I actually had to stop watching it because it was so terrifying, but I am guessing Little Fires Everywhere will be available in the same way:
–Available on Youtube the day after the episode airs: episodes from $1.99
–Available on Amazon Prime the day after the episode airs: episodes from $1.99
So if you want to plan a viewing party with your book club–hopefully this will make your plans a little easier!
About the Series
The 8 episode limited series stars Reese Witherspoon as Elena and Kerry Washington stars as Mia.
Based on Celeste Ng’s 2017 bestseller, Little Fires Everywhere follows the intertwined fates of the picture-perfect Richardson family and an enigmatic mother and daughter who upend their lives. The story explores the weight of secrets, the nature of art and identity, the ferocious pull of motherhood – and the danger in believing that following the rules can avert disaster.
The cast includes Reese Witherspoon (Elena Richardson), Kerry Washington (Mia Warren), Joshua Jackson (Bill Richardson), Rosemarie DeWitt (Linda McCullough), Jade Pettyjohn (Lexie Richardson), Jordan Elsass (Trip Richardson), Gavin Lewis (Moody Richardson), Megan Stott (Izzy Richardson), Lexi Underwood (Pearl Warren), and Huang Lu (Bebe).
The series is produced by Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine, Kerry Washington’s Simpson Street and ABC Signature Studios, a part of Disney Television Studios. Liz Tigelaar (“Life Unexpected,” “Casual”) will serve as creator, showrunner and executive producer. The series is also executive produced by Reese Witherspoon, Kerry Washington, Lauren Levy Neustadter, Pilar Savone and Lynn Shelton. Author Celeste Ng serves as producer.
A Reese Book Club Pick
As you know, this book was a Reese Witherspoon book club pick in 2017 and has been a top book club pick since 2017–including the #6 Top Book Club Pick of 2019.
The book seems to have been slightly polarizing–some loved it, some hated it–did your book club have that experience?
A Kerry Washington & Reese Witherspoon Co-Production
According to Variety, Reese Witherspoon and Kerry Washington grew close as founding members of the Time’s Up movement. Kerry Washington says it was during those early days of organizing that sparked realizations that not only had women been siloed throughout their careers, but also told sexist rumors about other female actors in order to keep them competitive with each other. When they came together to fight for equality and end sexual harassment in the entertainment industry and beyond, they started building opportunities to work together so they could control the culture in their environments as well as the culture at large.
When Kerry and Reese shopped the project around, Hulu jumped at the opportunity to work on the project. Beatrice Springborn, Hulu’s vice president of content development, highlights the actors’s sharp analysis and reading life that impressed her most.
“This might sound so basic, but they’re both readers,” says Springborn. “To be able to talk about character and theme and text in a sophisticated, sharp, heightened way is rare. And in the case of this book, when you’re dealing with so many different layers of thematic and generational stories, it’s really important to have people who know the material — which doesn’t always happen.”–Beatrice Springborn, Hulu’s VP of Content Development
