Educated (Inspiring, Dramatic, Interesting) remains our #1 Book Club Pick for the 5th week on a row, overtaking Little Fires Everywhere and Before We Were Yours for the top spot.
The Power has been popping on and off the Top Club Picks list throughout 2018; Listed as one of the best books of 2017, it answers the question: what would happen if teenage girls were given immense physical power, including causing agonizing pain and death? (PS–If any mother/daughter book clubs have read this book, email me–I would love to write about it.) The Tattooist of Auschwitz, based on interviews with Holocaust survivor and Auschwitz-Birkenau tattooist Ludwig (Lale) Sokolov seems to be capturing the heart of book clubs; And it also looks like book clubs may agree with Stephen King who describes Tana French’s The Witch Elm as “incandescent”–reviews are out but the book has made its was onto the top club picks list quickly. A man who is beaten and left for dead by robbers returns to his family home to care for his dying uncle and finds a skull in the trunk of an elm tree in the garden. That skull brings him to terms with the possibility that he may not actually be who he thinks he is. And finally, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo keeps popping onto the list (maybe because Reese is making it into a movie?)–about a glamorous and reclusive 79-year-old movie star who is ready to tell her secrets–and makes a strange choice about who she wants to write her story.
