Introduction
This Duchess of Mine is a story about marriage – to be exact, a failed marriage. The Duke and Duchess of Beaumont have lived apart for years, ever since Jemma discovered her husband tupping his mistress in his office. In the intervening years, she has become one of the most elegant, witty, and exquisite women in two countries. But now she’s decided to woo…her own husband. Will she succeed? Can Elijah and Jemma learn to love and forgive, to be as passionate in their faithfulness as they are in bed? People Magazine said of my writing that “romance doesn’t get much better than this”; I think that This Duchess of Mine offers the funny, sexy escape that we all need these days.

London Seat of the Duke of Beaumont

No one dressed to please a husband. At least, not in the Duchess of Beaumont's circle of acquaintances. One dressed - to be frank - to dazzle and amaze one's female friends. Or, if one were so inclined, to invite a seduction…to engage in an affaire. ... view entire excerpt...
Discussion Questions
1. Jemma and Elijah have been separated for many years, due to his act of infidelity. Do you think that their marriage has a chance to survive, long-term, give their past?2. This Duchess of Mine is a romance – but since the author is a professor, many of the historical details, to do with digitalis, glass-blowing, and London riots, for example, are true to the historical record. Do you prefer the escapist parts of the book, or the historical ones? Are you fascinated or bored by details about the lives of mud larks and glass-blowers?
3. Elijah makes the difficult decision to turn down medical care because his possible death would threaten future research that might save lives (the doctor in question developed digitalis). Do you think he did the right thing? Would you do the same? Would you do it if it were not your life in danger, but that of your child?
