Excerpt

Chapter One
"My name is Gin, and I kill people."
Normally, my confession would have elicited gasps of surprise. Pale faces. Nervous sweat. Stifled screams. An overturned chair or two as people scrambled to get away before I buried a knife in their heart-or back. A sucking wound was a sucking wound. I wasn't picky about where I caused it. ... view entire excerpt...

Discussion Questions

From the author:

1. Do some people (like murderers, rapists, etc.) deserve to die?

2. Does being an assassin and killing someone for money automatically make you a bad person?

3. Is there ever a need for assassins? Can assassins sometimes serve the greater good?

4. Would you ever hire an assassin to avenge a loved one who was murdered? Why or why not?

5. Can an assassin ever be considered a hero? Are there any circumstances where that might be the case?

6. Assassins are popular characters, particularly in the fantasy genre. Why do you think that is?

Notes From the Author to the Bookclub

A note from the author:

Dear Reader,

Ever since I started reading fantasy books, I've been intrigued by assassin characters and the moral questions they raise. Do some people deserve to die? Does killing someone for money automatically make you a bad person? Does an assassin ever feel guilty about killing? Can assassins ever serve the greater good? These are some ideas I wanted to explore, so I created my own assassin-Gin Blanco, also known as the Spider.

Assassins might not be the most sympathetic characters or the easiest to identify with, but I think they are some of the most fascinating. Gin certainly has her own quirks, powers, problems, and troubled past. Plus, I wanted to write a really strong female character, someone who can rise to any challenge or problem that she's faced with.

I hope you'll check out Gin's story in my new Elemental Assassin urban fantasy book SPIDER'S BITE and see for yourself whether an assassin can ever truly be a hero. Action, danger, magic, and even a little romance-the book has something for everyone.

Happy reading!
