Excerpt

A chill of anticipation washed through me . . .
Madame Iya’ rocked back and forth, shaking a small brass rattle. “We humbly ask you to send the spirit of our beloved Sophie to join us.” A full minute passed, then Madame Iya’ spoke again. “Sophie is here.” ... view entire excerpt...

Discussion Questions

1. Whether you’re a non-believer like Liz or a believer like Robin and Viv, everyone seems to have that one inexplicable “woo-woo” occurrence, a lucky break at the right time, or bizarre coincidence from out of the blue. Tell us about yours.
2. Sibling rivalry is woven throughout WHO DO, VOODOO? Liz and Dave banter, Sophie and Nola compete for attention, and New Orleans Alice and her sister engage in a wicked game of deceit. Does competition in the family build character or foster resentment?
3. Sophie’s lack of self-esteem drives her to bizarre lengths to win Sam’s heart via a cup of coffee. What is the most unusual stunt you’ve performed to win a heart?
4. Do you agree with Liz’s “Rorschach Test” opinion of tarot cards or are some people gifted with acute psychic awareness?

Notes From the Author to the Bookclub

The idea for WHO DO, VOODOO? came while I waited for a Valet to deliver my car in front of an exclusive Hollywood restaurant. As I perched on the window ledge of the $10 Psychic Reading shop next door, I wondered how a $10 Psychic paid the exorbitant monthly rent. Was it a steady stream of customers for a gifted seer, or could a more sinister con be going on inside? Curiosity blossomed into a plot about an intelligent but doubting woman who engages the help of an occult expert to help her solve a crime veiled in the supernatural.
