Introduction
There may be grave consequences for bookbinder Brooklyn Wainwright as she attempts to solve two murders tied to one book...
Brooklyn's chance to restore a rare first edition of Beauty and the Beast seems a fairytale come true--until she realizes the book last belonged to an old friend of hers. Three years ago, Max Adams, a renowned, brawny papermaker, fell in love with a stunning beauty, Emily, and gave her the copy of Beauty and the Beast as a symbol of their love. Soon afterward, he died in a car crash, and Brooklyn has always suspected his possessive ex-girlfriend and her jealous beau.
Now she decides to find out who sold the book and return it to its rightful owner--Emily. She believes a rare book dealer can assist her, but when she arrives at his shop, she finds him murdered. Is it possible the same couple who may have killed Daniel is now after his edition of Beauty and the Beast? With the help of her handsome boyfriend, Derek Stone, Brooklyn must unravel the murder plot--before she ends up in a plot herself...

Hello, my name is Brooklyn Wainwright and I am a book addict. It was Friday morning and I was on my way to the Covington Library to sniff out my personal version of crack cocaine: Books. Old, rare and beautiful.
I didn’t need a twelve-step program; I just needed more bookbinding work to keep me off the streets. That was why I’d driven over to Pacific Heights to see my good friend, Ian McCullough, head curator of the Covington Library in San Francisco. He’d called earlier to let me know he had a job for me. ... view entire excerpt...
Discussion Questions
(1) Author Kate Carlisle came up with the Bibliophile Mysteries because bookbinding has been her hobby for years, and she has taken classes from many book restoration experts just like her heroine, Brooklyn Wainwright. What is your hobby? Do you know of any mystery series centered around that hobby? What are the tools of that trade, and how could they be used as murder weapons?(2) The titles of the Bibliophile Mysteries all have something to do with books: HOMICIDE IN HARDCOVER, IF BOOKS COULD KILL, THE LIES THAT BIND, MURDER UNDER COVER, PAGES OF SIN, and ONE BOOK IN THE GRAVE. Can you come up with other clever and creative twists on common sayings that would work as titles in the series? (Feel free to email your best ideas to [email protected]!)
(3) Did you know who the killer was before Carlisle revealed it in ONE BOOK IN THE GRAVE? If so, how did you figure it out? What were the clues that led you to that conclusion? What were the red herrings that made you think the culprit was someone else?
(4) Brooklyn Wainwright’s family is quirky, to put it mildly. Do they remind you of anyone you know in real life? Who, and how so? How do Brooklyn’s parents compare to your mom and dad?
(5) What do you think of the relationship between Brooklyn and Derek?
(6) On KateCarlisle.com, you’ll find Brooklyn’s map of San Francisco, with icons showing all the locations that appear in the books. Have you ever been to San Francisco? If so, have you been to any of the places mentioned in this book? How about those hills? Would you ride a bike in San Francisco? What is the farthest you’ve ever traveled from home?

Notes From the Author to the Bookclub
Note from the author: One Book In The Grave is the fifth book in my Bibliophile Mystery series featuring bookbinder and rare book restoration expert, Brooklyn Wainwright. Each Bibliophile Mystery features a rare book that provides the catalyst for mystery and murder. One central theme that runs through the series is the bookbinding principle that in order to restore a book, one must first destroy it. It follows that in a murder mystery, some lives may be destroyed before justice can be restored.Book Club Recommendations
