Introduction
Sarah Woodson is a loving, dedicated mother to her ten year-old son. Some might say her fears for his safety have taken the joy from her life. Those worries, combined with an emotional injury suffered when she was a young equestrienne, have left Sarah doubting herself, her husband and the world she lives in. All of those fears come into sharp focus when she, her husband and son take a vacation from their busy lives in America to a remote spot in Ireland. What started out as a way to relax and unplug from the stimulations of their hectic, digital world "back home" quickly turns into a nightmare when the family of three is stranded after an international incident. Forget every worry they ever spent a sleepless night over: now their very survival is in question as they face starvation, winter, and blood-thirsty predators. Can a family skilled only in modern day suburbia and corporate workplace politics learn to survive when the world is flung back a hundred years? When there is no internet, no telephones, no electricity and no cars? And when every person near them is desperate to survive at any cost? And can Sarah, terrified of horses and the new terrible world she's left with overcome her fears to do what's necessary?
