For boys becoming men, this Jersey shore resort town was a violent place. By the 1970's, tourist dollars had dwindled. Parents whose futures had dissolved took their disappointments out on their kids. Kids, in turn, punished each other. Growing up meant hustling, and learning how to be tough. To prove yourself you had to do almost anything. Boys wanted to be men. That ambition could destroy them.
