Introduction

TWELVE YEARS A SLAVE: Narrative Of Solomon Northup, A Citizen Of New-York,Kidnapped In Washington City In 1841, And Rescued In 1853 The absolutely true story of a free man, kidnapped from his home and sold into slavery - kept captive for twelve years, enduring the worst of men and the worst of conditions, until finally rescued and returned to his family. This story (recently made into a motion picture) is what the world of antebellum slavery was really about --- the most amazing thing is that people survived, and they survived with dignity and their love for fellow man still intact. This is a story every person should read.
