Amy Warren backpacks across the Grand Canyon after her husband serves her with divorce papers for her fiftieth birthday. She must rebuild her shattered self-confidence and gears up to face extreme heat, rock slides, and rattlesnakes. Her adventure turns dangerous when she finds a mangled body in a ravine and a series of suspicious events stalks her along the trail.

A new friend, Sarah Rochon, epitomizes the outdoors woman Amy aspires to be. She thwarts the theft of Amy’s gear at the Phoenix airport, and the women join forces to confront the dangers of the canyon. The attentions of a rugged park ranger, Glen Hawk, threatens the friendship, but Amy rebuffs him.

In a remote arm of the canyon, a deranged man hunts down the women. On a narrow ledge, Sarah battles the knife-wielding attacker in hand-to-hand combat. Amy watches in horror, and clings by her fingernails to the edge of the abyss.
