In 1971, no one had heard of Afghanistan, and no one cared. The Russians hadn’t yet invaded, and the Talibans didn’t exist. Eloise Hanner takes us back to a simpler time and shares with us her story as a young teacher, living in Afghanistan as an American Peace Corps volunteer. In a tearful good-bye, Hanner promised her mother she would write on a weekly basis, and she was good to her word.
