While former insurance fraud investigator, Emma Haines, and her friend, Charles Wellington, kayak on Paint Creek near Copperas Mountain, they witness a shooting.

Emma stays in Chillicothe, Ohio, to crack the case and calls her beau, Stratton Reeves, to keep her company. Back in her hometown of Clintonville, her office manager, Merek Polanski, and her friend, Detective Joey Reed, help her with the investigation that leads her and Stratton down a path of family secrets, danger, and another shooting that shakes Emma to her core.

When Charles returns to Clintonville, he learns that two estranged men want back into his life, while his job as Chief Engineer at Bridge Systems requires he stop the destruction of a satellite.

Pressures mount while someone from Emma's past may be stalking her for revenge.
