Introduction
In Worthy of the Stars, an American man and a German woman find their beliefs about love and family, loyalty and patriotism upended by World War Two: He in the course of military service and conflict regarding the decision to bomb Hiroshima; she in uncovering and resisting the Nazi slaughter of the disabled in Project Aktion. Their mutual emergence from innocence makes them outliers to their opposing causes and forces them to risk their lives and identities confronting the evil spawned by powerful and devious men. Their stories are depicted with a large cast of interlinked characters, both real and fictitious, in England and Germany, in the far Pacific, and in the United States, between 1920 and 1947. Their adventures challenge conventional notions of history, and also suggest a unique explanation for inexplicable matters, including the real meaning and purpose of universally unsettling dreams and visions.
