Introduction

Josette Monier is a legend among the Sazi.

One of the most powerful, beautiful, and oldest Sazi in existence, she lives in self-imposed exile. Her gift of sight is so strong that to be around other living creatures is to be in pain.

What Josette has experienced lies beyond the scope of the Sazi, for her mate is in love with someone else. But when her gift of sight reveals trouble for her community, she knows that she has no choice. She must set aside her personal pain and save her people. And perhaps save herself and find love again.

Excerpt

Josette Monier stood motionless in the faint moonlight beneath the spreading limbs of an ancient hickory. It was spring in Arizona, and the field smelled of moist earth and fresh new growth. But even at night there should be sounds . . . the fluttering of birds in the trees, or mice moving through the thick tufts of grass. Instead, there was nothing but the rustling of tiny new leaves. The small animals were utterly still and she knew why. They were hoping remaining quiet would keep them from drawing the attention of the killer in their midst. ... view entire excerpt...

Discussion Questions

1. How would you react if you learned someone you thought was dead was still alive? Would you be relieved and grateful, or angry that they'd allowed you to mourn?

2. In Timeless Moon, Josette must decide whether people will live or die on a daily basis. By her actions, she can save them or not. If you were faced with the choice of saving one life, but there was the possibility that thousands others would die if that person lives, what would you do?

3. If you were going to create a new identity for yourself, what would you change.

4. Did you ever hide something special when you were a child and later found it? Were you surprised that it remained untouched all those years?

Notes From the Author to the Bookclub

What inspired you to write this book?

“We often hear it said that ‘hindsight is 20/20.’ It goes to the idea that it’s easier to look at the past with clear eyes because the event has already happened. You can see the errors in judgment that caused you to guess wrong (or right.) But we wondered what would happen if a person saw time as a fluid object—the past, the future and the present, all in one long stream that moved and shifted as every new choice was made.

How would someone deal with the knowledge of death and life, played out again and again over centuries? Either it would drive the person mad, or they would become resigned to it . . . cold and unfeeling. From this, the character of Josette Monier was born. She’s been judged evil, insane or dangerous by those who don’t know her—merely because of the “gifts” she was born with. But those who are close to her know she’s often troubled, sad and in emotional turmoil. That sort of complexity isn’t often encountered in romance fiction and we knew that she deserved to have her story told. We’d like readers to close the book thinking about the choices we would make if faced with similar situations.”
