Introduction
“The Last Letter is a haunting, heartbreaking and ultimately inspirational love story.“?InTouch Weekly
Beckett,
If you’re reading this, well, you know the last-letter drill. You made it. I didn’t. Get off the guilt train, because I know if there was any chance you could have saved me, you would have.
I need one thing from you: get out of the army and get to Telluride.
My little sister Ella’s raising the twins alone. She’s too independent and won’t accept help easily, but she has lost our grandmother, our parents, and now me. It’s too much for anyone to endure. It’s not fair.
And here’s the kicker: there’s something else you don’t know that’s tearing her family apart. She’s going to need help.
So if I’m gone, that means I can’t be there for Ella. I can’t help them through this. But you can. So I’m begging you, as my best friend, go take care of my sister, my family.
Please don’t make her go through it alone.
Ryan
Discussion Questions
From the publisher:1. What did you think of Yarros' use of the letters between Ella and Chaos? Did you like getting to read them? What did you think of the way that they were presented out of order, but each tied in with a chapter?
2. Why did Beckett hide the truth from Ella? Was Ella correct to initially cut him out of her family's life when she found out the truth? If you were in her shoes, would you be able to get past that?
3. Why does Beckett not believe that he's worth of love? How does he eventually come to accept love?
4. What is behind Ella's trust issues when it comes to men? Was she justified in her distrust? How did she eventually move past it with Beckett?
5. What were some of your favorite moments from the growing bond between Beckett, Maisie and Colt?
6. In general, the book is full of lots of grief and loss. How much (and where) did you cry? Can there be too much tragedy in a book (especially a romance)?
7. Ugh, the ending (cries buckets). The [major spoiler alert] death in the last 10% of the novel has been very divisive for readers. Did you feel like it was an integral (if heartbreaking) part of the story, or did you feel like it was tacked on for shock value?
