Introduction

Beyond the Corner Office - Essays by NineWomen (authors- Margaret Ann Chappell, Dana Becker Dunn, Fran Henig, Pam Hufnagel, Carol Knauff, Duffy Kopriva, Kathy Meier, Judith Scheffler, and Yvonne Shepard) is a series of personal essays written by nine former female executives. In these essays, they reflect on their careers, what it was like working during the feminist revolution, and on life after early retirement. These women bonded in a series of intellectual and artistic Outward Bound exercises. One such exercise resulted in the writing of this book. Read the book and see how NineWomen positively influenced their lives.

Excerpt

We met for the first time in January,2002, in a rented conference room in Bedminster, New Jersey, brought together by Yvonne Shepard, a former President and COO of AT&T Peurto Rico. Yvonne, a couple years after her own retirement and at the conclusion of a consulting assignment in Latin America, was trying to figure out just what she should be doing next. She looked around at other women she knew were in the same situation, and thought about the combined creativity and skills that were,in some sense, going to waste. She wondered if by joining forces, we could do something interesting and challenging, and make a difference. view abbreviated excerpt only...
