Introduction
The Comancherìa: Shadow of the Great Owl (TurnKey Press, December 2004, ISBN: 0-9754803-1-6, $16.95), the second book in The Comancherìa series, bridges multiple genres with its plot of suspense and political intrigue. While the structure still follows the classic Western theme of good versus evil, multi-racial characters and strong female roles defy stereotypes. The title character, Reid Matthews, is not your typical cowboy-hero. He’s half Comanche warrior and protected by an ancestral owl spirit. Matthews’ fiery wife, Kelly, is part Spanish, part Irish, and plays a pivotal role in her husband’s fight against injustice. Shadow of the Great Owl tells the story of Reid Matthews’ relentless campaign to stop an evil government network from taking over the world. The network has been secretly infiltrating humanitarian, philanthropic and media organizations to consolidate their control of American society. When the network learns that an environmental resource on a Texas ranch could be the key to ensure their plans of world dominion, they will stop at nothing, even murder, to get it. This installment finds Reid Matthews fighting to clear the names of his friends who are falsely accused of murder and bring the true culprit to justice. Matthews is certain that the leader of the secret network, Code Alpha, is responsible, and he vows to prove it. From Texas to Washington, D.C., the story keeps readers in suspense as Matthews untangles the network’s web of greed and corruption. The only thing that’s conventional about Shadow of the Great Owl, is that if Matthews and his friends prevail, they will most certainly ride off into the sunset. Until Matthews’ son is kidnapped, leaving readers wondering what will happen next in the series. B Ray Mize is an oil-field investigator who probes into million dollar frauds and criminal activity. He was born and raised in Texas and currently lives in New Orleans with his wife, Sharon. Shadow of the Great Owl is the second book in The Comanchería series. Both Mize’s first book, A Kill Line, and Shadow of the Great Owl are available in bookstores everywhere and in most major online retail stores.

Adele eased herself up from her chair. "Dawlin', that's not any of your business." She placed her purse on the desk in front of Buzz and took out a folded Buck knife. Broad-shoulders stopped his advance and smiled thinly, his eyes scanning the room. He crossed his arms over his chest and leaned to one side. Adele unfolded the knife and tossed it handle first at his feet. He laughed and smiled sardonically. "What's that for?" Adele removed from her purse her ivory-handled, .38-caliber Lady Smith. "That's the knife you attacked me with." Her eyes turned icy, and she inhaled sharply. She thumbed back the hammer of her revolver. The sound was unmistakable for what it was. view abbreviated excerpt only...Discussion Questions
