Introduction

Every serial killer needs a friend.
Every game must have a winner.

When a chance encounter sparks an unlikely bond between rival murderers Sloane and Rowan, the two find something elusive—the friendship of a like-minded, pitch-black soul. From small town West Virginia to upscale California, from downtown Boston to rural Texas, the two hunters collide in an annual game of blood and suffering, one that pits them against the most dangerous monsters in the country. But as their friendship develops into something more, the restless ghosts left in their wake are only a few steps behind, ready to claim more than just their newfound love. Can Rowan and Sloane dig themselves out of a game of graves? Or have they finally met their match?

Butcher & Blackbird is the first book in the Ruinous Love Dark Romance trilogy of interconnected stand-alone dark romantic comedies. This dual POV novel ends on a HEA.

***Butcher & Blackbird is a DARK ROMANCE intended for an adult audience - please see Brynne’s website for a comprehensive list of CWs***

Discussion Questions

Do you read many romance books? Have you ever read a romance like this one before?

While the setting and context are dark, the relationship between the main characters is tender, heartfelt and could even be described as cute. What did you think of the way the author balances gore, humor, romance and suspense in her novel?

The book is written from both the perspectives of Sloane and Rowan. How would the book be different if it were told from just one of their points of view? If it were narrated from an omniscient third-person perspective?

The novels protagonists are both serial killers themselves, albeit ones who hunt down other serial killers. Do you believe this form of vigilante justice is warranted or ethical?

Rowan and Sloane start as friends. How important do you think friendship is as a basis for romance? In what ways did Weaver conform to or subvert the friends to lovers romance trope?

What did you think of the dark humor in Butcher & Blackbird? What was your favorite humourous moment?

How does the author build suspense in the novel as Sloane and Rowan's actions threaten to catch up with them?

Okay, let's talk about it! What did you think of the sex scenes between Sloane and Rowan? Was the level of spice right for you?

Did you listen to the author's playlist as you read the novel? If so, how well do you think it complemented the story? Any favorite songs?
