Introduction

Step into the world of Everett Smith, a boy coming of age on a farm in Fredericksburg, Va., in the 1960s. Everett’s childhood is marked by the memory of an assault he witnessed on his mother. his formative years are a quest to find the person responsible and bring him to justice. Along the way, Everett learns to be a young entrepreneur, inherits farming wisdom from his father and grandfather and lives his life to the soundtrack of what some consider the golden age of rock ‘n’ roll. Everett’s story harks back to a time when family farming was much more prevalent. The story’s authentic voice is a reminder that while not everything about “the good ol’ days” was so good, it’s important to remember the past so that we can learn from it.
