My Reviews
Gripping from the first chapter. I was a bit overwhelmed when I heard the subject. School shooting are something I always turn the channel on tv to avoid. Just can't stomach the idea. This book was from all point of views. Easy read, because of how she wrote it. Very enjoyable, and worth the purchase.
I selected this book thinking it would be fun and light hearted for our club to read. It never made it there for our group of 35 to 40 year olds. We were all so disappointed on so many levels.
I enjoyed reading this book, but found the details were a little too long in places. I had to keep reminding myself that Calliope was in here teens telling this story. It should be an excellent discussion for our group. I would recommend this book, but difficult for a working mom to get through the text.
This book was a quick read and entertaining.
At times considered predictable, but entertaining. You have to love a woman who goes after what she wants no matter what the odds.
This book was an easy to follow and well written. Gilbert lets you into her mind without any reservations. Her travels bring you around the world and through her mind.
I was left wanting more in this story. The struggles this kid went through and how they all in their own way over came them is an amazing tribute to the author. It is astonishing how much kids can bear and the lengths they will go to over come them. I have recommend this to several people and will continue to do so. Written so well and with out the warranted pity party. Excellent read!
Light read and nice break from all the Memoirs. Our club is bringing a list of what we want to do in a year/five years. It should prove to be a moving night.
This book is a collection of essays. We mostly talked about the lack of plot in this book and lack of detail. It did make us all want to plant a garden or head to a farmers market. Not a big discussion book for a club. But we all joined a book club to read out of our comfort zones anyway.
I would not recommend the book. Only one person could get through the book. So difficult because there were barely any conversations. I can't even understand why they would make it into a movie. Skip it!
I was really ready for a great love story with wonderful twists and turns. This had all those things in the book, but the flow was disapponting. You can tell a man wrote this book from a woman's perspective. The ending was terrible, it was a big dissappointment after reading A Thousand Splendid Suns.
This book was tough to put down. The violence was difficult if not unbearable to get through at times, but our club loved this book. It was well written and thoughtful from a womans point of view. I loved this book.
I truly enjoyed this book and had a hard time putting it down.
It is a curtural trip to China in the late 1800's. Very different from the other books we have read. It gets you thinking about your own female relationships. Great Book!!!!
This was a good book. I did keep looking over my shoulder a bit as I read the book and how it affected everyone. It will lead to some interesting discussions
I thought this book was good and it gripped me. I was hesistant at first until I got into the story. There is a fine line between good and evil in the early 1900's and image and honor are a huge part of this. It is different and unusual from anything else we have read.
This book chilled me to my soul. I had a really hard time putting it down and dealing with the subject matter. It puts the holocost in a different light and from the point of a child who is forced to grow up way too fast.
I loved this book. I listened to the narrated version and loved the different characters. It shows that war and desperate times can only take so much away from people. I loved how the different characters dealt with their different situations and learned to move on from it all.
I loved this book. It has wraps around the subject and tells the story in a gripping way. My only complaint is that it ends too soon.
