My Reviews
I was looking forward to reading Dear Life, as I'd been curious about Alice Munro for years. I was very disappointed. I tried reading several stories and they totally lost my interest before I could even finish them. I did push myself though a few of them, but didn't find them to be worth the effort. They are meandering, plodding and just plain dull.
As always, beautifully written, with fully realized characters you grow to love. The audio version is spectacular. The best book I've read in a long time.
Our reading group all agreed, this was a very good book and we all enjoyed it a lot. We had a great discussion on the family dynamics and worked to make the children in the family all successful adults, despite the hardships they endured. The mother was fascinating and usual be instilled her children with great survival skills.
I loved this book. That Ismael could live through what he experienced and become the wise, sensitive, loving person he is today is inspiring.
