My Reviews
We all thought the book was okay, but rather weird. We especially didn’t like the food references. They were kind of gross. And the repetition of phrases got to be annoying. So much so that some of us skipped sections of the book when we could see a repetitive part coming. Some of the characters were amusing. Mary put it right when she said, “I thought the book was hilarious, but I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.”
We really enjoyed discussing this book. It had mystery, suspense, witches, a radical religious cult leader, a love story or two, interwoven family ties, a surprise ending, and a group of Red Hat ladies. There was very little lace reading which was a bit of a disappointment. All of this lent itself to a lively discussion in our group because everyone seemed to get something different from the story which is what the book said about lace - every piece is different, every story is different.
We enjoyed this selection because it was light reading. It wasn't the best book we ever read, but it wasn't the worst either. We liked the fact that the heroine grew with each item on the list she accomplished and, in the end, felt better about herself and her life.
I really liked this book. The plot had unexpected twists that made it interesting.
