My Reviews
This book requires a real time commitment - It's a long slow read. At times I was enthralled at other moments I was frustrated and annoyed. The book is well written but often asks the reader to suspend belief, which I hate to do. Some characters were compelling, others vile. Definitely a book club read because every reader has a different reaction to the novel.
I love this genre. I was captivated by the author's tone and attention to detail. After I finished this book, I was inspired to learn more about woman's rights or lack of during the late 1800's. Really fascinating. Highly recommend.
If you liked "The Help" I'm sure you will enjoy this novel. Set in the south during the time of slavery the story tells the tale of a young slave, Handful and her owner. It's told in alternating voices, a technique I enjoy and is both suspenseful and captivating.
I appreciated the simplicity and ease of Mr. O'Reilly's writing. There is a lot of history presented in the novel and I found it easy to follow and understand. For me a very fascinating read.
This book is light but not cheesy. The beginning was a bit confusing but once I found my groove, the book was addictive. Good twists & turns and some insightful messages too.
This book left me underwhelmed. I was not aware of this period of time but have since read other books that capture this time period and they do a better job.
This is the type of book that requires your full attention. It is a heavy read, often sad and confusing. I have read lots of books covering World War II and this one has an unusual plot.
I love books that leave me feeling haunted and this one did just that. Sometimes, good people are forced to make bad decisions. A really solid read.
I generally do not enjoy romantic fiction, however "Me Before You" is smart and well written. Even after you finish the novel you will be thinking about the book.
I love novels that span decades and generations. This story sweeps you up and keeps you hanging on. Really interesting and informative look at Afghan culture.
A really addictive read that will keep you guessing the entire time. Well written, dark humor, a bit graphic. a physiological thriller.
I could not stand this book! It received so much praise and accolades , I couldn't wait to read it. What a disappointment. For me, it was slow, boring confusing, depressing and completely annoying. I felt like I was reading pages & pages over& over again. I did not enjoy the premise or the book.
I loved this book. As a fan of historical fiction I found this book the perfect blend of fact & fantasy. Really fascinating to learn& read about such a remarkable real life couple. A wonderful and enjoyable read!
Real life is definitely more compelling than fiction! Such an amazing story of courage and perseverance. So well written.
I remember being in love for the first time, and yes this book captures that feeling beautifully, but the novel overall is disappointing. It just fell short for me. I wanted the story to be better developed. I can see why it is labeled as young adult. My 15 yr old loved it, I didn't.
Our book club was divided. Some thought it was brilliant while other\'s thought it was ridiculous. I found it humorous and very cheeky. I would not call this great literature but definitely a fun read.
Interesting story weaving two people together. I have read many Holocaust books and this one was a bit different, which I appreciated.
Another book which received lots of positive attention, but left me bored and annoyed. The charterers were pretentious and so narcissistic. I honestly could not connect or relate to any of them. Very disappointing.
I picked up this book on a whim. Not knowing the author or reading any reviews prior to purchasing this book I was not sure what to expect. The writing wasn't brilliant but the story captured my heart. I was so invested in Elise & Ben's love affair that I shed many tears. An easy quick read.
Not a page turner, but a story that will melt your heart. Even the title is beautiful :)
Makes you appreciate life and what we take for granted.
