My Reviews
This is an excellent book for a book discussion group. Though a quiet read which takes place in the course of one day; it is so beautifully written and presents the reader with so much to think about the lack of a fast moving plot goes unnoticed.
Friendship is the strongest theme in this book, but it is also about love and the unexpected set backs two couples face and how they carry on.
Our book group had a great discussion and all felt the book was beautifully written and insightful. Many loved the book, others were in the like category. No one was disparaging of the book.
Nothing too remarkable about this book. A safe read, characters, in my opinion, lack depth. Best part of the book is the beginning. Story and characters weaken as it progresses.
Members of our book group like this book across the board. We found it skillfully and beautifully written, voice of the characters authentic, description showing a strong sense of place, a dramatic story that held our interest, and a great first novel. Highly recommend.
A beautifully written story of Claude Wheeler who is struggling to find his purpose in life. It takes place on the Prairies of Nebraska and the battlefield of WWI. If you like beautifully written novels with honestly developed characters you may like this book. If you are looking for a plot driven page turner book, this may not be for you.
