The Thirteenth Tale: A Novel

I have read this book twice and loved it both times! It is a perfect book club selection as it leads to so many points of discussion. Some of our members felt it moved slowly at the beginning but were glued to it towards the end when the \\\"ghost stories\\\" started to unfold. Gothic, haunting, well written and (I feel) an incredible book!

You will either love this book or hate it which makes it great for a book club. Anna, the main character, is a lost 37 year-old whose addiction to the internet leads her to become involved in creating experimental films. I admit it might be a little \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\"out there\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\" for some readers and Anna is quite pathetic but Alina Simone\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s writing is worth reading. She\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s perceptive, funny and came up with quite a cast of characters. I wanted to underline observations and quotes & dog ear most of this book. The ending was quite shocking.

I was not expecting to like this book as much as I did. It was well written and I felt anxious for these characters at times. I enjoyed the twists & turns the story took and liked being surprised by some of them. Books about this horrible subject are usually hard to read but the author did a fine job of leaving some things to your imagination and bringing some issues to light. A great book to read for book club

Beautiful writing, a lot for women to talk about even if they do not know anything about the origins of the characters and the rape of Dinah in the Bible. I've read the book twice & can see myself reading it again. It is an excellent book for book clubs (some women will hate it as well which makes for even better discussion!)

It was a nice, quick read; something I would read on an airplane. Fast moving but nothing to really discuss for a book club.
