My Reviews
The book had some good information on the life of Laura Ingalls and family, but it seemed to be written trying to imitate Laura's writing style.
There are other biographies that are more recent and better, but this wasn't too bad.
It is always interesting to get another perspective on a region that most people are not familiar with; the media seems to report with a horrible slant nowadays.
This book brings home to us that it isn't "dictators" or horrible governments we are fighting but people. And knowing that some of these people whom we are reading about are directly affected by bullets and bombs gives us the insight needed to understand what is truly going on in other parts of the world.
Enjoyed by all in the club.
We read this book along with "The Great Gatsby". It was the first time we had attempted reading two complimentary books. We all felt that reading Zelda's biography truly enhanced our reading of "The Great Gatsby".
It was well-written with a lot of information that shed some light on writing of F. Scott Fitzgerald. We are anxious to try this again with another set of books.
The whole group enjoyed this book. It covers a lost Shakespeare play and also the issue of the author of the plays. A few of our members had never heard of the controversy over the authorship so they especially enjoyed that part of the discussion.
This is a wonderfully written book. The subject and action are a little difficult for some to handle, but all in our clubs--we combined our adult and teen book clubs to read this one--enjoyed it. Most of us, however, did not appreciate the ending which just left it hanging for the next book in the series. It just made most of us feel cheated.
I had a hard time getting through this book. It is apalling that in the 21st century there are still culturs that can abuse and mistreat women and children and expect them to just take it.
It did make for a wonderful discussion, though
