Here is a light read that keeps you coming back to see what's happening next. The main setting is a primary school in a small community in Australia. The author draws you in to the lives of these mothers that balance family, work and friendships, yet they each have their own secrets. Who are they really?? If you're looking for a beach read, here you go! If you want a good discussion book at your meeting, I'd choose a different book.
Our group really enjoyed this book. We're always looking for a subject that can enlighten us and this did for sure! The characters are inviting. Fanny Flagg did a great job. We had a good discussion from this book.
To sum it up, one of our member wanted to call an early meeting just to discuss this book. It really is an eye-opener of what took place for women that had a strong will and mind back in the early 1900's. Amazing book!
This is a book that grabs you right from the beginning. Lots of twists and turns and a great discussion.
Jeanette Walls opens up her heart and soul with this book. I highly suggest this book and her sequel Half Broke Horses for any book club. As a Mom you'll be hugging your kids!
Everyone should read this book! It is an amazing story of where and what our cells are used for in science. This is a compelling story of how an innocent woman's cell sets up science and medicine of today!
All I can say is Alice Hoffman did an outstanding job writing this ancient story. The book is broken into 4 parts and a conclusion, just know this from the beginning so it is easier to understand the flow of the book. I did notice a bit of repetition but set that aside and envision this life of 4 women in 70 c.e. The barbaric life that surrounded this region during the time of the Roman Empire and before shows the ugly side of humanity which still invades our society today. If you seek historical fiction, I I would recommend this book.
