My Reviews
Our book club used this wonderful depiction of circus trains to discuss topics such as aging, families, relationships, mental illness, animal cruelty, etc. A believeable viewpoint, incredible twists, and a happy ending. What's not to love?
Despite fast forwarding almost 100 years later than the setting for The Birth House, we as a society continue to debate the safety of innate wisdom...wisdom from women themselves as well as her "sisters". Modern medical science frequently looks for the illness, rather than celebrating the wellness.
The Birth House explores these issues and more...a wonderful fictionalized account of Dora, an apprentice lay midwife, and the women who influenced her life. Great discussion for women's book groups.
This book stimulated lots of discussion re: TV, reality shows, homosexuality, parenting teens, religion. A fun read, but with enough underlying issues to have a compelling discussion.
Fantastic storytelling of a poignant issue....teen suicide.
Anyone with teens can especially relate to the subject matter.
Girls in Trouble, a book with an interesting premise with the subject of open adoption gone wrong,is however, not highly recommended by our group. Character development is weak, and passages throughout the book are overly decriptive.
Our book club loved Peace Like a River...it gave us lots of discussion..an excellent choice for our club.
Fun, and funny book...great discussion book.
