My Reviews
Interesting view of turn of the century life on the midwest prairie. Challenges of living difficult life and society norms of that era. We thought it was a true picture of what life was like living in the midwest at that time. Antonia was a strong, adaptable and accepting main character.
It was a clever approach to a story however could be confusing at times. But did want to find out the ending!
It may be classified as "mystical realism", but it was too weird for our club's liking.
Our group agreed that you had to read about 25% of the book before it got interesting. Many put it down before that as they found the first portion of the story plodding and boring. Members who stayed the course enjoyed the book. All found Kingsolver to be an excellent writer.
