My Reviews

Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier

Dramatic, Romantic, Beautiful
Slow start but well written and a good story.

I particularly enjoyed the authors use of prose, I could most certainly envision Manderley, its Morning room, the garden outside, the workers cutting the grass and the smell of the flowers, grass and the ocean breeze. Her characters were strong in their parts even though Mrs. DeWinter # 2 was young and dumb but with the help of evil Mrs. Danvers she finally showed her colors and stood by Maxim, even though he shot his wife! I thought that was amusing. Had to be the period.

Good story and I can see why it is timeless.

A Land Remembered

Patrick Smith brought me back to a time in Florida that living was difficult for all humans. These sturdy implants endured freezes, snakes, rogue military, hardship all for the sake of family. They brought indians and blacks into their family as well as horses and dogs. This is a must read for both crackers and snow birds alike!

Beneath a Marble Sky

John Shors provides a masculine touch to a haunting love story that survives the ages. His recall of history was only slightly embellished and provided good conversation. This book got a thumbs up from the Melting Pot Book Club and comes highly recommended as a good read.

In the Garden of Beasts

Eric Larson was at his best, yet again. His boook gives you a different perspective on Roosevelt, Congress and the political body at large. The bias in not only Germany but the US. How they snubbed a truly sensitive and intellegent man who was merely trying to do his job.Great research and enjoyable reading.

If I Should Stay

Ms. Forman did a great job with conveying the emotions of this teen and spreading it to an adult audience. She captured the essence and attitude of Mia in her inbetween world and the decisions she would have to make.

Seven Sisters

Lucinda Riley has a terrific way of telling a story. Her research into Brazil, it\\\\\\\'s people and their events was spellbinding. Paris in the 20\\\\\\\'s was a treat to read. Once you finish this book you want the next one.

Sarah\\\'s Key

This story brings you back to a very sad time in our history where thousands of people, mainly women and children, were slaughtered by Hitler. The author does a great job in alternating chapters between the present and the past to bring this story to light. The book is a page turner, you won\\\'t be able to put it down.

Telex from Cuba

The basic story was good but the author droned on and on in many chapters making it difficult to want to keep on reading.
