Great book with an amazing twist. Our bookclub gave this 5 stars!
Considering this book was written over 100 years ago, and was probably the first sci-fi book, our overall rating of the book was a "C". While we didn't "love" it, we didn't "hate" it either and were glad that we read it. We could see where today's sci-fi got a lot of their inspiration.
We found this book to be informative and interesting, how come we have not heard of this family before? The history of the political side and W.A.'s involvement was fascinating. We would have liked to know more about Huguette.
Overall we really enjoyed this book. Our discussion was very dynamic and went through an assortment of topics: jealousy vs. envy, the have's and have not, entitlement, relationships and keeping secrets.
quirky and fun! loved the characters and Jess' optimistic outlook on life
I selected 3 stars only because our club was glad they read it just for the different way the story was written - reverse chronological order and we did not want to give it just 2 stars (2+ is not an option). We did not like it because we could not find one character that we liked, felt it was poorly written and at times confusing
Interesting and inspiring a beautiful tribute to his wife and child
Although this book was challenging because there was so much to sort through, I could not put it down! The unbelievable conditions they had to work in and survive in makes you ask the questions: How prepared are we for a catastrophic emergency and what would you do to survive?
