This dark, scattered novel spins out an array of unlikely mysteries, none of which are ever solved; features poorly developed characters whose decisions are inexplicable and plot points that dribble away into nothingness; and paints North Idaho as a horrid, dark, gloomy, violent and hateful place. I've lived there; it's not. A few in my club actually liked this book. While the writing is evocative, I had to struggle to stay with it to the end. Yuck.
